The Fair Life Gist: Lasting Philanthropy

Education should not be viewed simply as charity. It is an investment in human potential. The children sitting in classrooms today will become our future teachers, engineers, nurses, entrepreneurs, and leaders.

However, limited literacy reduces future employment opportunities, multiplies vulnerability to exploitation, street hawking, and child labour, and traps entire families in generational cycles of poverty. When millions of children are out of school, the consequences flow forward to cripple the entire national economy.

That is why I believe the conversation around corporate giving needs to evolve from: “How much can we give?” to “What problem can we help solve?”

The Fair Life Gist: Human Life, Accountability, and Gratitude

There is a timeless Yoruba adage that reminds us: anyone who is grateful for the little things opens the door to receive even greater things.

At Fair Life Africa, we believe true impact is built on a two-way street of balance and transparency.

From Our Beneficiaries: Recipients of aid share proof and updates showing exactly how the support was utilized for its intended purpose.

From Fair Life Africa: We hold ourselves to the highest standards of transparency and accountability with our sponsors, ensuring you see the real-world impact of every dime contributed…

The Fair Life Gist: The Girl Child

There’s this brilliant 12-year-old girl who lives down my street. Let’s call her Blessing. We don’t interact that much, but I’ve noticed that she’s always up very early. Sometimes when I’m on my morning jog, I’d see this girl balancing a bucket of water on her head, coming from the community borehole which is quite a distance from her house.

My heart twists inside my chest each time I see her. I mean, if she’s waking up that early, at least let it be to revise for a probable test coming up at school later in the day, not to begin with neck breaking work…

The Fair Life Gist: Mentorship & Magic

I strongly believe mentorship is vital for fast tracking a person’s success trajectory in life. There’s no hard rule about it. It just takes the availability of a person who is currently living a life that’s the aspiration of a willing learner.

When people think about sponsoring a scholar through our Disadvantage to Advantage (D2A) Initiative, the first thing that usually comes to mind is school fees, uniform purchases, and textbook receipts. Yes, that financial backing is absolutely important, but true holistic sponsorship goes so much deeper…

The Fair Life Gist: True Independence

Did you know that across Nigeria, an estimated 18.3 million children are currently out of school? That’s 10.2 million children of primary-school age and 8.1 million at the junior-secondary level! And this statistic is based on a 2024 United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) report, so it isn’t hear-say.

What this means is that roughly 15% of the global out-of-school cumulative stems from Nigeria, especially the rural and northern regions.

When a child is locked out of the classroom for any reason, it creates a chain reaction that traps families in cycles of poverty and vulnerability…

The Fair Life Gist: New Beginnings

If you stepped out on the streets of most Nigerian states last week Monday, I’m sure you couldn’t have missed it. There was that typical back to school vibe in the air: the energetic hustle of parents ushering their wards to school, new backpacks strapped over pressed uniforms, and sparkling white socks in danger of turning a different shade by afternoon…
