FLA Kids Easter Party

A Happy Easter Celebrations to all our friends!  We hope the holidays have been restful while there has been ample time to spend with family.

Ours was an amazing experience filled with lots of fun and excitement as we hosted over fifty children at our Lekki Home on Saturday 26th March.  28 children are currently enrolled in our Disadvantaged to Advantage Initiative coupled, while twelve more are in receipt of our support through our various programmes.  The FLA Kids were invited to bring a friend each to join in the celebrations.

The Easter Party got underway on a wonderful note as Ufuoma gave a brief on the true meaning of Easter, while she also encouraged the children to be serious with their education.  The children were reminded that the reason we celebrate Easter is because of Jesus, who gave us something so precious, that we really needed, that we can never repay.  In a similar way, their sponsors who give to our work, give them something precious that they may not ever repay.  We thank God for His gifts, through Jesus, and our friends, donors and child sponsors.

Always excited about the opportunity to test the children’s mental strength we organised a Spelling Bee competition in the different categories of Primary, Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary sections. Martin Okolo, our Master of Ceremonies for the day did a fantastic job in pronouncing each word for the children while our friends, Ese Atiyota and Martins Ogumah, from Dreamedge Creations were present to capture the beautiful moments of the event.

The high point of the event was in the Senior category as contenders spelt all words correctly after three round of sessions. With the other children getting tired of clapping and avoiding the risk of having a drab party, we heightened the race by adding stringent time conditions and a one-chance attempt at each word.  Precious, Ibukun and Felix were our last men standing before Precious emerged as our ultimate winner leaving Felix snatching the second position.

First positions in each category got an Ankara material donated by Joseph Yobo, runners-up got a white vest while others got consolatory prizes for their efforts.  All the children took home gift packs of rice, noodles, spaghettti, oil, note books and more, so that they could continue to enjoy the Easter with their families at home!

There was food and drinks in abundance for everyone.  We also stepped out to cut the cake, while remembering the March Birthday celebrants in our midst.  The dance floor was open for our dancing competition before we went out for a sack race.  Every moment was enjoyable as the children also had the chance to bond and make new friends.  Many thanks to our friends, Orhue Imosemi and Tobi Kasali for stopping by to celebrate with us.
